Having fastened all the hooks, I took the knot at the other end of the ropes, and began to pull. Not one ship would move. They were all held fast by their anchors. I then cut the anchor ropes with my knife. Taking the knot once more, I was able to pull fifty of the enemy's largest warships quite easily.

The Blefuscudians were confused and surprised at first. They thought my idea was to let the ships drift out to sea. It is almost impossible to describe their screams of despair when they saw me pulling the whole fleet away.

The next time I met the Emperor of Lilliput, I asked his permission to visit Blefuscu. He gave it very coldly. He had heard about my meeting with the ambassadors, and clearly didn't like the idea of my being friendly with his enemies.

The moon was shining (светила луна), so I was able to get to the palace quickly (поэтому = и я смог быстро добраться до дворца) without stepping on any people (ни на кого не наступив).
