When Mr. Hiram B. Otis, the American Minister (когда мистер Хайрам Б. Отис, американский посол; Minister — министр; посол, посланник), bought Canterville Chase (купил /усадьбу/ Кентервиль Чейз; chase — охотничьи угодья; зд. часть названия усадьбы; to buy {Canterville Chase — название имения / усадьбы Кентервилей; chase — охотничьи угодья; в русских переводах говорится о замке, где обитало привидение, однако в оригинальном тексте нигде не встречается слово castle, обозначающее замок. Indeed, Lord Canterville himself, who was a man of the most punctilious honour, had felt it his duty to mention the fact to Mr. Otis when they came to discuss terms.
